The Imperative For Creators.org

Creators are a vital part of the modern economy. Entertainment and news have forever transformed from a closed, traditional system of production and distribution to an open, participatory system. The internet has democratized content creation, giving everyone a voice. We are all now media companies.

Collectively, in the next year, creators will produce more hours of content than all of Hollywood has produced in the last 10 years. Over that same period, creator content will generate more views and watch time than all corporate-owned streaming services (Netflix, Amazon, Apple, etc.) combined. Creators are the present and will dominate the future of content.

We have also seen the rise of a small set of tech conglomerates who have aggregated creators and consumers on platforms we all use (Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, Twitch, etc.) and in doing so have amassed massive power over individual creators.

The platforms are a vital part of the ecosystem, and we should have great appreciation for their services. However, we should also believe that creators deserve better. These platforms are some of the most valuable and profitable businesses in human history, and a lot of value has been built on the backs of creators.

The time has come for creators to organize under a united voice.

Earlier this year, we started hosting calls under the name "Creator Project 1.0." The goal of the group was to explore the idea of building an organization that could advocate for creators. I always knew a better name would come, but I wanted to get started with a placeholder. Today, we are officially launching creators.org. This organization's mission is to advance the rights of creators around the world and build a better digital ecosystem.

There is a lot of work to do, so we hope you will join us.
